Pls help - questions re: ordering groceries online from tesco

Hi all
I ordered groceries online from tesco for the first time yesterday and have just received my order - however when the driver got here he said that it was a 'stored transaction' which meant my card had not gone through so he put me on the phone to someone at his office to give them another card - has this happened to anyone else? it was all a bit dodgy really bcoz it could have been anyone on the end of that phone! also there was no reason for my original card to be declined, it was a debit card and i know for a fact the money is in there. anyway i gave them my credit card number as it was either that or have no food!
Also there doesn't seem to be a confirmed price anywhere - the receipt from the driver says 'Total to Charge £56.80' but this was the total cost of my order with the delivery charge, but before any promotions which came to £3.54 and before the £5 off ecoupon, so I should only be paying £48.26 - does this amount appear anywhere or do they just let you guess how much you are actually being charged??!!
Many Thanks

  • Hi
I have had a problem in the past when a card wouldn't go through and Tesco's rang me prior to my delivery. I think that sounds a bit odd and I would ring Tescos just to double check if I were you.

If I remember rightly, you should have a total charge less vouchers and offers at the end of your delivery sheet!

  • thanks for the reply, i did have a missed call from an unknown number earlier so they may well have tried to call me - still confused as to why it was declined in the first place though. i don't have a final total at the end of the bill but that may be bcoz they didn't have a card to charge it to.

urm sounds a bit funny to me too, i use them regulary and have had problems with my cards in the past and they have always called me to get payment before they will deliver if they don't have payment up front they don't deliver. not sure on policy store to store mine is in telford.

I would also ring to confirm this with them.

It's quite normal. Your card was declined and they tried to phone you but didn't get hold of you. Rather than not deliver at all, they brought it in the hope that you would be able to pay with a different card. As for the total, this will be on your receipt.

Maybe you entered a digit wrong for your card details on your order. This has happened to me before but not with Tescos. I would ring them to check the price though as the receipt should have shown the price then the discounts then the actual price you are paying.

Did you try ringing the customer services number afterwards to try & find out what the problem was? There is usually a number on the receipt.

  • thanks all (i am using my works computer today and the thanks button is working so i have thanked you all!)

it was probably my fault i should think i put a wrong digit in i am stupid like that! i have checked my delivery note over a hundred times and cannot see a final price after discounts on there anywhere but i am sure it will be fine, i have emailed tesco to see if they can confirm the final price and if not i will check my statement and if it is wrong let them know!

it is a bit confusing that the price online doesn't take the discounts off though as i wasn't sure how much i had spent - i thought i had spent £50 and would get the 5p off fuel voucher but only came in at £48.26 - if i had known i would have added something else to my basket!

Love I don't think the petrol vouchers are given out with online orders I may be mistaken but I have never had them and I have never had an order for under 50 quid (we all like our grub in our house see) lol!
