Help needed!!

I am asking for a friend who is having so much trouble at work right now. Her tax code was wrong so she called hmrc who have investigated and told her she was working 2 jobs since Feb 2017. Which is incorrect. It is showing another company name paying her the EXACT amount of wages as her actual job so they told her it has to be her employers mistake. The lady at the tax office said there's nothing they can do and it's all up to my friend. Who has spoke to her employers who deny it's their fault. They are a family run retail shop so theres not a head office to deal with, just them. So she has no where to go with this and is getting very stressed. If anyone has any advice for her that would be so appreciated. Thank you

A good place to start would be for her to look on her personal tax account on gov.uk to see exactly what these employers have been sending to HMRC.

Has the shop changed "owners"? One of my relatives had some issues when the shop she worked in changed how it operated, nothing really changed, same job, same people, same shop but having worked for Mr & Mrs Smith for years in a gift shop then next things he knows his P60 had Anytown Gifts Ltd on it (anonymised as he still works there!).

Turned out the owners accountant had come up with a more tax efficient way of running the business but no-one told the staff anything had changed (cause in one way it hadn't really).

Also, is it still affecting her tax or has that bit been sorted now?

It could easily also just be HMRC counting the same job twice. I have had this happen to 2 clients - one was doubled up from £25k to £50k and it took a while to sort out. Ask HMRC what the 2 employer references are, in the £25k to £50k one the clowns at HMRC eventually admitted that each of the £25k incomes came from the exact same reference, why they could not just fess up to this right away other than general incompetence is beyond me.
