NHS "Bank" workers

(apologies if you read my earlier post (now deleted) which appeared in another thread when I intended to create a new one)
Would be grateful to know:
Which organisation pays you? That is, is it the same as that which pays your "permanent" colleagues or is it presented as being separate?
I believe bank workers are paid for accrued leave each time they are paid. What percentage is used to calculate the amount?
If you do bank work consistently do you get a higher allowance for holidays on a par with permanent roles and does your pay rate increase using the same progression?

depends on the trust and how they set up their bank.
some treat the banks a separate organization on Zero hours contract with basic holidays(not enhanced NHS ones) where the standard holiday pay is 12.07% paid each pay period and not carried forward till the holiday is taken.
you need to check your local trust policy.0 -
I've seen an agreement document (specifically saying it is not a contract of employment) produced by an employer which is not an NHS one but likes to say it has some similar HR practices. It is for people who I would think are like NHS bank employees - eg being able to turn down work (and then not being asked if they turn down too often).
I wondered whether it makes a difference if the "employer" runs the bank and permanent payrolls together.0 -

Depends- some in-house, some use NHS professionals, some have a different arrangement.I believe bank workers are paid for accrued leave each time they are paid. What percentage is used to calculate the amount?
Some let you accrue hours and then require you to take them, others just pay the 12% on top.If you do bank work consistently do you get a higher allowance for holidays on a par with permanent roles and does your pay rate increase using the same progression?
No- I believe additional pay/ annual leave benefits do not apply to zero hour contracts0 -
I do bank work on top of my normal contract but within the same trust
I get seperate pay slips and P60s for both, so that sense they are seperate but they are the same trust paying
I'm not sure what percentage the annual leave is, I assume 12.07% it's around that. We accrue as we do the hours and take when we like, but can't roll over into a new year, if you don't take it by end of March you loose it. I, and most of my colleagues, tend to accrue till December then have a weeks extra pay, then get the rest towards the end of March - can't take more than full time hours in one week
The unsocial hours apply same as normal hours (but in fairness you don't get many Sundays or Bank Holidays on the bank - they tend to be done by core staff)
I think we are the same hourly rate as normal wages0 -
BTW according to the tax office I have two jobs, each with their own tax code - but they are with the same employer
If I don't work for 6 months with the bank then that employment ends - however I believe it's easy to restart as already employed by the trust0 -
In my Trust, holiday pay is paid as a 'bonus' every three months, which is equivalent to that of fixed contract staff accrual. But you must work 1 shift a month or you 'drop' off the bank list. The only other real drawback is no NHS sick pay.
Our bank staff are paid the same as FT staff, which includes enhancements.0
