Free travel beyond Birmingham New St with Season Ticket

My partner and I are looking at buying train season tickets between Derby and Birmingham. Unlike me, she'll be going a bit further, changing at Birminham New St to head out to Solihull. Oddly, the price to Birmingham and to Solihull are identical.

So, there must be a certain radius around central Birmingham that's included for free which she benefits from.

My question is, if my season ticket specifies Derby to Birmingham, would I ever be entitled to likewise travel further out around Birmingham for free, including as a split ticket paying for a longer journey? Or must I too get a ticket specifying Derby to Solihull, at no extra cost, to have that additional free travel?

As the season ticket prices are the same you might as well get a Derby - Solihull one to be on the safe side
