Cancelled Direct Debit with FIT4LESS

Hello,
I'm seeking some advice as I'm not quite sure what to do in this situation.
I froze my gym membership with fit4less back in november for 6 months roughly, come january time i had no intention to go back there so I cancelled my mandate thinking that would be the end of it since I've not gone back there and used their service.
I got a letter about reinstating direct debit, no mention of future charges and proceeded to throw it in the bin.
The other day I got a letter stating "Due to this payment being missed you have incurred a £20 admin charge which leaves your account in arrears by £39.99. We kindly ask that you contact...blah blah to pay and reinstate direct debit. This will cease any further charges being incurred.
We remind you that under the terms of your membership you need to provide 1 months notice and therefore need to make another monthly payment. Failure to do so will result in further action so please contact us immediately."
Okay so I have failed to give 1 months notice and understand that, however they aren't being transparent in what further action may follow so is this just scare mongering?
If I don't pay are they ever going to do anything further that would impact me financially?
What should I do?
Many thanks in advance.
