Casual Work Tax Free

Hello,

I understand that you can now earn up to £1000 for occasional work as an addition to a main job and that you don't have to declare this tax as of the 5th April 2017. I've done some work for a company that was undertaken from December 2016 to February 2017. I was paid £150 for this work and the company paid this money into my bank on the 1st May, i.e. in the current tax year which permits tax free earnings up to £1000.

My question is, do I have to declare this money to HMRC, since I did the work in the previous tax year but I was paid in the current tax year? I'm unsure whether it's determined on when I did the work or when I was paid. Obviously I'm hopeful of the latter :)

Thanks in advance!
