Console Recommendations - 7 YO who likes to dance

Hi - I hope someone will be able to help me recommend a console..
It's my daughter's 7th birthday coming up in a couple of months, and she's really into dance games - Just Dance etc - that she's played at friend's houses, and we wanted to get her one.
We are not bothered if the console isn't the latest gadget (and don't mind buying on ebay), but just want to make sure that there will be other games available when inevitably she grows out of the dancing thing.
So far, i am thinking of the Xbox one (with Kinect), PS3 with move sensor....any thoughts on the Nintendo Switch, if i'm lucky enough to find one?
Any thoughts/tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Im an Xbox fan so im going to say Xbox One, Just Dance is also available on the Xbox 360 so you could get 1 of them cheaper then Xbox One.
The 360 also had a kinect that you can use for games like Just Dance.0 -
It's a pretty tough question to answer at the moment in all honesty.
From your description it sounds like your daughter's preferences really lend themselves to a Nintendo console and 5 years ago the Wii would have been the logical choice.
However, the WiiU that replaced it was a bit of a flop so you don't want to get that.
The new Nintendo Switch may be a good buy, but it's still very early on in it's life which means it's expensive and there aren't many games out so could be a bit of a gamble.
For motion sensor type games, like Just Dance, the X-Box One with Kinect is the best. However, like the Switch, it's a bit of a gamble as Kinect has gone from being a key part of the X-Box One to nothing more than an add on which is becoming ignored more and more.
Then there's the PS4. It's the highest spec of the 3 consoles out at the moment and has a huge catalogue of exclusives games but on the motion sensor front it's probably the weakest of the 3.
It does have the advantage of having the best Virtual Reality offering but you have to buy all the hardware for that separately which pretty much costs more than buying the console in the first place. Also, despite a few decent VR games early on the future release schedule for VR offerings from Sony does look worryingly bleak so if you did buy the PS4 and then shell out for the VR stuff you may find it gathering dust.
So, overall, i've probably not been much help!
It's a bit of a weird time for console buying at the moment as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all releasing new hardware going in different directions so it's hard to see which will flop and which will succeed.
I've got a PS4 and am currently trying to decide on if I want to buy a Switch, X-Box Scorpio or Playstation VR and am finding it very difficult to decide because of the above reasons!
If you were to pressure me, i'd probably say the Nintendo Switch may be the best bet but i'd also advise holding off making a decision for as long as possible until they announce more games.0 -
Zareer - worth thinking about the other aspects of a console as well, that you may use. I have a PS4 which has apps like amazon, Netflix, I-player, now TV etc. so you can use it for watching streamed services. It will also play blu-ray discs, dvd's, and 3d movies. Far as I know XBone has similar. You can also store photos, music, etc. on it. With PS4 the camera is about £40, and the wands are extra on top of that.0

for a 7 year old you you may be better of getting a nintendo wii for now and see how she gets on
if she becomes a Nintendo fan then it gives you time to save for a switch no point getting a Switch now ive heard there isnt many games out for it0 -

I used to agree... but the Kinect on Xbox One was so bad. I had two (bf and I) and both broke within a year. They seemed to overheat regularly.
I'd be tempted to say Wii or Wii U for the dancing side as it will be much cheaper.
Usually an Xbox fan too.0 -
For dance games, there are plenty that are tied to nintendo consoles that can keep a 7 year old occupied for hours. But I do agree with the previous posts in that you should do a test run with perhaps a used system before going in to buy a new nintendo switch. If its just dance games you're looking for, there are 2 new Just Dance games coming out for the switch either this year or next year i believe. Production of Wii U games have stopped so there won't be anything new for that system but the advantage is you can probably find them for a fairly good price with a bunch of extras thrown in.0

I would have a look at getting an old Nintendo wii (yes the original one) and pick up the original just dance games (4 numbered ones if I remember rightly plus spin off ones like Michael Jackson) . It's for a 7 year old it doesn't have to be brand new or really expensive she might even enjoy the wii sports / Mario and sonic at the Olympics. There's also wii fit which has balance mini games and different exercises.
ck them up relatively cheap at cex (and yes you can return ones that don't work)
10 years on mine is still working and we still lay tennis and bowling on it0
