Smart Meter - yes/no ??

I am being continually pestered by my energy provider to have a Smart Meter installed. I have 4KW Solar Panels for the last 3 years and happy to stay as I am.
Am I sticking my head in the sand or should I agree to getting Smart Meters installed ? Any down side with regard to feed in tariffs, will I potentially lose out ?

In my case, the answer's been a flat "no".
I'm pretty certain I export more than I use. Which means that the deemed payments I'm getting for my exports will also be too low.
After asking my electricity provider, it appears that the first-generation meters they are rolling out are capable of measuring exports, but have not been properly tested or calibrated to do so.
I will continue to refuse an "upgrade" until they offer me a meter that will correctly measure exports, so I can be paid the right amount for them.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
A second issue is that the current crop of smart meters are not all interoperable with different energy suppliers.
So an E.on smart meter may turn into a dumb meter should you move to say Scottish Power.
Not saying that is the exact case, just an example, before any reps jump on me!!!4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.0 -
No not until they are next generation SMET 2.0
-
It's ludicrous really, until they have a standard set amongst ALL energy companies they shouldn't be installing anything imho.0

The problem is that the energy companies have been coerced by the government into rolling out smart meters by 2020, even though the standards aren't ready yet.
The only way they can meet that target is to persuade enough people to take the obsolete SMETS-1 meters until the SMETS-2 ones are ready. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
