First time buyers - partner has terrible credit

Hi all. My partner and i are looking to buy our first house - hopefully within the 300k value range. We have a combined salary of 65k and a deposit of 30k. My partner has excellent credit rating whereas mine is terrible. I have had two defaults... one for a credit card for £1000 defaulted in January 2014 but settled in August 2016 and another for a final mobile phone bill which i had forgotten to settle in March 2015 but is now fully paid up. I am really concerned about our chances of obtaining a mortgage at all let alone at a favourable rate. Has anyone in a similar scenario successfully applied for a mortgage recently? if so which broker would you recommend? many thanks
