Only SSD or SSD+HDD

Hello,
A few days ago I shared there another SSD-HDD question. It's a bit different question. I have an HP 15BA010NT laptop and I can insert (max 512GB) SSD disk. Also it has 1TB HDD. The question is that Should I use the laptop only SSD or (I can remove DVD drive) HDD+SSD.

Usually only space inside for one or the other
  • You're right but if I remove DVD driver, I can insert there an SSD or HDD. So I can use both of them

yes you can remove the cd drive and put another hdd there.

However, there are 2 thicknesses of cd drive, one is about 9mm, the other about 12mm. You need to buy a caddy to fit these, plus there are at least 2 different type of connections, and at different locations, so do not just buy any caddy.

The disk screws onto the caddy
  • I know these. The question is that should ı use only ssd or ssd+hdd? which one

What are you trying to achieve?

If you can fit 2 drives then make the SSD your main boot drive and use a HDD for bulk storage.

Or are you asking whether you should use a hybrid drive rather than a pure SSD?
  • I want to achieve the first one

How much capacity do you need? If you need a lot of capacity then the SSD and HDD combination will give you a good balance with your OS and programs on the SSD and your larger files on the hard drive. However if you can afford an SSD with suitable capacity then it's a better option as you won't have the additional power consumption and heat from the hard drive.

Will you fill the capacity of the SSD? If yes buy a higher capacity SSD?

Or fit a standard HDD. If your thinking about using it for backups then dont. Get an externa; storage device.

you may or may not on your laptop be able to boot from the second disk. Most you can, my Samsung seems you cant, but have not really tried that hard either, but is does not show up on the menu when i boot from usb.

If your laptop is a fairly decent spec it will support a hypervisor > vmWare Workstation, or the free VirtualBox. You can install linux and windows in this. Some speed is lost, not great for real time stuff, or conversion of film, but good enough for companies that use similar technology to run twenty servers simultaneously of off one box.

you can run traditional and ssd together. Ideally a 1tb (bigger the better?) ssd would be best though.

In practical terms, most just want fast system, and usually file access is not an issue, but if you are doing lots of db queries, film conversion, video editing then bigger and faster is often better. For naormal saving docs, sheets, mp3 and watching films access times and transfer rates are immaterial
