Floss, Elantan I live in Midlothian. Floss, thats just outside Edinburgh, 220 miles from Huyton where my BF lives. So I have looked into trains but no joy. Also involves having to get to Edinburgh and at least one change of train.
Sarah, am I reading your signature right? Have you shaved £5k of your debt this year already? Thats really impressive. Thanks for your welcome.
Duchy, bandroi thanks for that. I didnt think about a car share scheme. I'll go investigate.
NeckoZombie, its the council gym that I use, and I need to give one months notice, so I'll get the letter done tonight as well. I've been with them for a couple of years and am too embarrased to tell you how often I've used the faicilities!!!
PS Still no luck on the pm, so thank you to the person who pm'd me. i'll reply to you eventually!!0 -

Yes its right, all of it is down to this site.... from cutting back on unnecessary expenditure, switching utility providers and selling anything that we no longer use.... the advice and ideas of people here, plus their stories, is what has spurred me on.
Take a look at the sigs, most people have achieved way way more than me!

Stagecoach was a way I used to go down to London from Manchester to see friends - £19 return, if you didn;t mind the [STRIKE]weirdos[/STRIKE] characters you meet. Train could be a way - I know the daily mail ran a free train discount card that saved us a bundle.
We gave up our car, felt awful as most of the debt we have is mine, and the car was the first brand new one OH had bought - but it was costing the earth, and we didn;t really use it. Now my FIL uses it, and makes the payments (hence it stricken from our 'working debt' total) and we haven't missed it at all. If you got rid of the car, you'd save £67.08 PLUS the current figure for car tax PER MONTH, plus no more worries about that funny clunking sound, that ends up costing you a fortune. Now you can't tell me it would be cheaper to keep the car - you could go first class for that price!
Def cancel the charity - if you feel that bad, volunteer at a charity shop for a few hours, or do a clearout and take some stuff down there. You simply can't afford it at the moment. You're paying £298.56 a year out on this. That would clear your daughter plus the Debenhams.
Can you get the Debenhams transferred onto the 0% card? Might as well have all your payment going on tthe debt, rather than letting them charge you for the pleasure of owing them money.
Good luck love, head over to OldStyle to pik up tips on household budgets, and don;t forget to join pigsback (Freebies board for info) - you click on stuff and gain points that you can swap for vouchers. Comes in really handy for birthdays and Xmas! This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

I thought we Scots were supposed to be good (tight?) with our money???
Ok, some good news. I made enquiries last Thursday about temp work with Next for Xmas. I got a phone call today asking me to come in for an interview!! So I've got an additional job, working 2 nights a week from November. Not quite sure how much I'll earn, £5.57 an hour, 8 hours a week? Dont know how much tax and ni I'll pay. Anyway, I'm more interested in the 25% discount. My family and friends can have whatever they want for xmas as long as its from Next hee hee. And I DIDN'T spend £4 on some lovely coasters while I was there!
The gym and charity are cancelled. Tomorrow I will do letters for work things that will give me an extra £14 per month. Also will research autotrader re selling my car. Also research Ebay. I have always just given stuff to charities shops so I guess my guilt can go...
Oberon...you've given me a lot to think about. I made up my mind about the charity as soon as I read £298.56 and paying off my daughter and Deb. i never thought about transferring the balance as its such a small amount, but that makes complete sense to me.
Thanks to all you lovely people. I'm a bit overwhelmed at how many posts there are and I havent had a chance to post on threads that I'd like to, but I'm sure I'll get into it. Checked out the Old Money posts and made tea for my friend and I for about 60p I reckon.
Time for bed. Just doing something about my debt is allowing me to sleep again. Night night xx0 -
A productive day. I paid £4.88 into Debenhams and £20 to my daughter that should have gone to the charity this month. From next month, I'll use the £24.88 and £27.50 for the gym to pay off the Debs card. Now going to update my snowball.
I've also decided to sell the car. I'm looking at advertising in Ad Trader which is free. Has anyone used this or do you all use ebay?0
