What about a food bank, google local ones then you could use money for petrol. Send kids to school with sandwiches if possible.

Food bank great idea! Packaged bank account is where you pay something like £15 fee for your bank account and you get travel insurance, breakdown etc. Loads were missold...

Well I hope you find some stuff and get a bit of breathing space to sort stuff out!

Good luck! And don't beat yourself up, life happens...sounds like you and you husband are tackling it together, a lot more than can be said for most!

And update if you can, its so helpful to see how people have done!

Speak to Citizens Advice or your local Children's Centre and ask for referral for a food bank voucher. You do not need to be on benefits. There is masses of in work poverty and you would be surprised at how many people in work are using foods banks. Don't be embarrassed. Explain to whoever you speak to that you are seeking support for your financial issues from (whichever debt charity you are speaking to).

The important thing is from now on only pay your priority debts (rent, council tax, utilities etc). Do not pay any more money to credit cards, loans, pay day lenders etc. They will get sorted when you set up whatever debt solution you enter.

If you are 1/2 way thro phone package you can request a downgrade to cheaper.

    stop any sky tv packages?

stop the fags ,mags ,booze, coffee latte , extended warranties etc?

PPI is a good suggestion, often the deadline company will refuse but go to the actual insurance provider and they can support the claim?

The key is to identify why you are where you are. Work out triggers. Have a joint agreement to a solution to financial mess and put strategy into place. Without clear plan and joint commitment you will struggle.
Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.

If you are paying out so much in unsecured debt you dont have enough money to survive (providing of course you are not extravagant) then a DMP may be the way to go and stepchange can help with that. In the meantime don't make any more payments, just write asking them to give you 30 days to sort things out and hopefully suspend interest payments.

Ways to make cash in the meantime is sell stuff which you already seem to be doing.

  • There's an app called Depop where you can make some pretty quick sales on things like pandora charms, make up etc. It's the same as ebay where it takes a 10% fee plus paypal take a 3.4% fee. I find it better for quick sales than ebay.
