First lightbulb moment

Hi guys,
benn hanging around for a while. I am a married stay at home mum, so don't have any earnings but my OH earns enough to keep us going. However we have both been very heavy on the credit cards racked up £11,500 and it's suddenly hit home with OH how much we owe. I have been telling him for ages he needs to cut down. I've not spent on CC for past few months, but he can't help himself. Anyway we looked at how we can pay it back and we should be able to do within 12 months, hopefully. I've suggested a few things to him like cancelling the gym and reducing Sky tv package. He just seems so against it, he said were not poor. But my thinking is the sooner we pay it off the better then we can get back on track.
The main things on CC are holiday spending and stuff to put in the new conservatory. And many many starbuck transactions............ Anyway just feel I need to get it all down so I don't keep going on at OH. Love to all you DFW.

Its hard if OH doesn't share your feelings, a bit like :wall:
Explain to him why you want to be debt-free. Point out to him that you want to be financially secure for your childrens sake, when they want university fees, cars for their 18th birthday and expensive prom dresses you will regret being in debt!
Try and work out a positive plan together - stress to him that this is about being sensible with money, not nagging him every time he buys a choccie bar.
Explain that you want to still have treats but economise for them. He doesn't have to live a life of poverty, just cut down a little.
With 11,000 on a credit card, interest will be high. Work out the amount of interest you are going to be paying back monthly on this, hopefully cold figures will get his attention.
Show him this website, let him read some of the challenges and show him the debt-free role of honour. Point out to him that you would like to be in this position, maybe he doesn't appreciate that it is important to you.
Good luck OP, start of gently and hopefully he will see that you can work at clearing debts without being totally skint:eek: Total debt £21,000 :eek:Weight loss to date - 2 st, 2lb:j0 -
Hi Sparkygirl.
At least one of you has had your LBM. It might take time but I'm sure you'll be able to convince your OH of the need to cut back. Even small savings will make a difference in the end.
Good luck and keep posting. It's always good to realise there are others in the same boat and to know that you have support when you need it.Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on
:j NOW DEBT FREE!!!! :jI try to take life one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

I will try he is always working. He works in IT and never stops learning new programmes etc. I will show him this web site and show him what life could be like debt free. I really can't wait. I just wish I could put more money into this too, might have to get a PT job at weekend, but we wouldn't see each other as he works away most week days. We will see how the next few months pan out and take it from there.
Thanks for all your words of support.0
