What to do with Grandparents' car?
Back in 1992, my grandparents bought a brand new Nissan Micra, with a J reg plate. They used it to go to the supermarket each week, and it made a few longer trips to see family. That was pretty much it. It was parked in their garage every night, and was loving towel dried if it had been rained on. As a result, it has under 32,000 miles on the clock and is in very good condition. It still runs well.
Sadly, we lost Nan last year, and my grandfather is now in a care home as he suffers from Alzheimers. I have power of attorney for my grandfather, and DVLA are transferring the car to me. We're planning to rent my grandparents' house out to help pay for the care home, so I need to get rid of the car.
I did try to value it through We Buy Any Car, but they only deal with L reg cars and newer. None of the family are planning on buying a car, so I can't offer it to them for a trade in. I'm thinking that my only options are a private sale in the local paper or similar, or scrapping it, but I'm no expert. Are there any other options?

Stick it on Gumtree and a new driver will most likely take it off your hands
In the description state what you have stated here.0 -
And if it doesn't have one, put a new MoT on it.0

Something like that will, odd as it seems, actually have a subset of car fans drooling over it...
J reg will be a K10-shape Micra.
I'll drop you a PM with the email address for a mate that can give you some good pointers.0 -
I was wondering if it's be quite desirable for use as a hillclimb/rallycross/track car, because it'll be so lightweight and simple.0

Don't be overly optimistic that it is worth much. Trouble with old cars are that there are quite a number of parts that decay simply with time - corroded metal parts, rubber bushes perishing, brake fluid gathering moisture, and so on, so although it may not have done the miles, there is no guarantee that it will be a reliable and useful car. Also at that age, chances are no ABS, no airbags or other safety features so not a great car for a new driver.
So although there may be some fans out there, keep your expectations low.0 -
Some owners clubs let you advertise. They might also give you an idea how much it's worth.0
