Some very harsh implied criticism of OP in response to a simple question.

I'd try it to use it up OP. Whether you choose to buy it again will be up to you. Plenty of gravy or butter should stop any concerns about dryness.

I find tinned potatoes a good storecupboard stand by and very good value. Are they the food of the devil too?

    Me too :)
In fact, I've just had a tin for lunch!

Some people are really food-pompous. :)
  • And this is why it is impossible for the NHS to do much about healthy eating as people everywhere would rather eat a box of chemicals and poor quality, pesticide heavy reconstituted potatoes rather than choose the ONE ingredient option...potato.

Laziness tops health much of the time.

    That's extremely harsh:eek:

My mum uses it. Not every meal as I usually cook for her. But sometimes I'm away for the weekend or am not going to be home in time to cook. Mums had a stroke and can no longer manage cooking two of three things at once and get them on the plate at the same time. She is more then happy with tinned veg and instant mash.

It means she can get a hot meal for herself and not be sat there with toast or a sandwich.

Lazy she's not. She only retired last year aged 78

Do you have any proof that instant mash potato is made from potatoes full of chemicals, poor quality and pesticide heavy? Thought not.

This is not laziness. I cook (from scratch) nearly every meal, including lunch. After getting home from 8 hours at work and 1.5 hours commuting, the last thing I want to be doing is mashing potatoes on top of preparing the rest of the meal, if I don't have to.

It's such a shame to see judgemental posts in Old Style. Especially when not all the variables and individual needs / circumstances are accounted for.

Nothing in life is that black or white / bad or good.

It's not helpful. And this is a helpful common sense forum space.

I prefer 'fresh' but it's a simple question with a simpler answer - eat or sling with the obvious answer being eat: with grated cheese & seasoning as suggested above.

Instant mash is better than no mash IMHO and I prefer it to tinned but as I say - if the other option is no mash I'll eat either!

We're (mostly) all preppers - I believe the choice between a 2 year old instant and a 2 year old (not so very) fresh is a no brainer.

Yes I prefer fresh to processed but also prefer processed to a (g)rumbling tum!
