Chased for debt that's been paid

Hi,
I ended up owing money for tax credits overpaid, I genuinely forgot to pay until I had a letter from a debt collection agency- Advantis. I've paid the debt in full and have an email receipt for this. Though I am still receiving messages and letters threatening that it's my last chance to pay the debt or they'll send people to my home. If the debt is paid in full can they still chase me? I don't understand!

Have you tried calling them and asking they check their records? If they don't have logs then provide a screenshot of your bank statement maybe, showing the payment made.0

Instead of calling, send them a letter stating that you've paid the debt on XYZ and that you are attaching proof YZL. Inform them that further contact, other than confirming that there is no further liability for them to chase or proving that there is a further debt to be paid will be considered as harassment and will be reported to the police and a complaint with FCA will be filled.
And if they then continue to harass you, do the above.0 -
Bearing in mind my original suggestion would be quicker and less inconvenient... lol I'd personally go for Arleen's suggestion second, should the first fail..0

I'm normally a phone person myself, but it rarely works with people who can't get their paperwork sorted in regards to payment in the first place. What usually happens is that you get something promised on the phone and... you get more letters in 2 weeks. While if they ignore this letter there can be consequences for them.Bearing in mind my original suggestion would be quicker and less inconvenient... lol I'd personally go for Arleen's suggestion second, should the first fail..0 -
Advantis are a large organisation, its possible one hand does not know what the other is doing, hence the continued requests for payment.
Advice from Arleen above is good, send them proof it's been paid, and it should go away.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Stupid question but did you actually check that the money has come out of your account? Did the email confirmed that the full payment had been received or just acknowledge your email to say you'd paid?0

Yes, I remember playing phone tag with a phone company for years, they agreed they owed me 200 by phone, but still sent debt collectors after me for a non existent debt in t he first place.
Got them to lay off, then looked at buying a second home and found they put a black mark on my record for a non existent debt.
Took me a few weeks/month but got them to take it off.
All because they couldnt keep up with t heir own paperwork.0
