Long term sickness advice

Hi ,
I'm just looking for some advice.

Basically a year ago I was involved in a bad Accident and almost lost a limb.
I have been sending in sick notes for the entire time to my work.
I have been doing a lot of thinking about my future and where I wanna be.

Coupled with financial strains I have decided that it would be best to move closer to my family and away from my current workplace.

Will I be penalised in anyway from my employer if I hand in my notice whilst on long term sick leave ?

Thankyou

The company have been very accommodating to my injury and time off.

    Unlikely.

If you are getting any company sick pay (over and above SSP) and it is discretionary (most is) then they could, I suppose, use their discretion and stop paying it. That sounds unlikely.

If you are not getting full pay then you may, under certain circumstances, be entitled to for a week of your notice period.

They must also pay you for any accrued but untaken statutory holiday (28 days per year). If you get holiday over and above that then you might not get those extra days.

    Speak to your employer.
To be blunt, they will likely accept your notice without issue.
If its a large employer you could possibly be medically retired with a payment/pension age dependant.

I cant see you being penalised for handing in your notice when off sick, might be z good idea for you to do that so the employer can employ another member of staff.
  • Thankyou all for the speedy responses.
I just wanted to check are they also obliged to pay any accrued holiday as I have been unable to take it ?
    Thankyou all
