Good luck Mickyh-s! Will be following with interest!Mortgage Balance as of September 2025 £11,700
Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000.
Aiming to be mortgage free by my 40th birthday, June 2026!0 -
Gutted! Didn't do a car boot yesterday as the forecast was rubbish. Had everything ready so hopefully the forecast for next Saturday or Sunday will be good. On the plus, it gives me a week to find some more bits to sell.
Nothing sold on local selling site this week either.
Luckily, it's been a cheap week with free cinema tickets, a free Macd's for DS and a few NS days!
It's pay day this Thursday so I will do my budget and see how much I can OP on the Mortgage.
I have been checking out Rightmove to see how realistic it is if we wanted to downsize slightly and move a few miles out of town to a village where house prices are cheaper. We currently have a three bed semi on a new development valued at approx. £310,000. We have a mortgage for approx. £106,000. We are looking to move to a village 6 miles away, where DS has lots of friends. It is a nice village with lots of amenities. We could get a house for approx. £230,000 but will probable need to spend £15-20,000 to make it how we would want it. So we would have a mortgage after costs of over £50,000 - Now I put it all on paper, I don't think it's worth the move to still have a mortgage of just over £50,000!! I have given myself 8 years to pay off the £106,000. Do I just stay put for 8 years?!?!
The other option, is to wait till DS is driving (3 yrs) or left home(!!!!!) and to move to a lovely village 17 miles up the motorway. It is a much cheaper area and I like the location but not an option whilst DS is still at school.
I have become obsessed in paying off this mortgage and 8 years seems a long time!!!Mortgage balance as of 21.7.21 - £75,766. Well according to the weatherman this coming weekend is suppose to be great sunny weather so fingers crossed you will be able to do your car boot sale. I know 8yrs is a long time to pay off the mortgage and we are about to extend our mortgage to 13years due to taking extra borrowing for an extension but will try to keep on overpaying small amounts and see how I can get this down depending on interest rates in the future.0

Just checking in to keep me on the straight and narrow!
Still not managed to do a car boot sale so have set myself a target to do two car boots in June.
Managed not to spend much this week or this bank holiday weekend. Got OH b-day and Fathers Day this month so trying hard not to overspend.
Got paid and OP'd £130 off mortgage. Got other expenses this month so realistically won't pay anymore until payday end of June now.
Lost a set of house keys last week. Been looking frantically for them but no joy. Had a horrible feeling may have left them in front door (on outside) and someone has pinched them plotting their return when we are out so had to pay out £250 for a locksmith to replace three locks...:eek
Two free cinema tickets again this week so nice treat for DH and DS. Also, sold something for DS on local selling site so he was pleased for the £40 which meant he didn't pester me for cash!
Enjoy the rest of the long weekend!Mortgage balance as of 21.7.21 - £75,766. Hi, the problem here would be, if you downsize will you religiously save? If you don't move you will have paid of an extra 50k compared to downsizing which with house price growth will no doubt be more. I'm big believer in stretching yourself and then downsizing closer to retirement.0

Yes, I agree with you jaidyer1980 but I am just so impatient and want rid of the mortgage!
DS is now considering changing schools in September and doing his GCSE's at a specialized college (architecture and engineering). It is a much smaller school, smaller classes and not so much to distract DS!! The decision is his 100% as I do not want to influence his decision in any way. I have told him he cannot change his mind and move back to his old school half way through.
The only bus that goes to the new school leaves from 6 miles away in a village we like. We would consider moving to said village as A) house prices are lower and would reduce the mortgage,it would make life easier for all of us in the mornings and evenings and C) DS has a lot of friends in the village (but none from the new school - they all live miles away but he is ok with this as would still have other friends from lots of other schools).
He has three months to make his decision...will keep you all posted!Mortgage balance as of 21.7.21 - £75,766. Ok, it's been a while but I have still been overpaying and plodding along nicely.
Last month, DH and I did two car boots. We didn't realise how much stuff we had and made a total of £310!
DS got a new double bed along with a bedroom make over so I managed to sell his single bed and also a desk and office chair he didn't use.
DS did me proud and announced when I found him cleaning a pair of his trainers that he had sold them to a friend of his for £40 as he didn't wear them any more. He had been saving for a portable blootooth speaker and now had enough money!
After this month, I only have £300 left which I can overpay on the mortgage. I have nearly reached the 10% limit. I will be then saving for next year's holiday and the set up fee for a re-mortgage we hope to take out for January.
Jetting off on our holibobbs next week and really looking forward to it.

Forget to say, doing a car boot with my sister on Sunday. I don't have much to sell but doing it more to keep her company but "every little helps"!Mortgage balance as of 21.7.21 - £75,766. We get two free cinema tickets every week with our life insurance. Sometimes we just go and watch anything just to use the tickets and not waste them. We sneak in our own snacks so it's a free night out! Taking DS this weekend and next week DH and DS are going to watch something they want.Mortgage balance as of 21.7.21 - £75,766. Sometimes I wonder if cinemas realise they would probably sell a lot more snacks if the prices weren't insane. We get 25% off the food and it's still overpriced.
Looks like the carboot sales did you well, though!0
