Why does anyone care about the fish?

Just wondering what motivates people to continue 'debating' in the thanks for the fish thread (on both sides)
For me it is a frustration and fascination regards human behaviour regards what I perceive to be an almost cult like alignment to a philosophy of national pride for a nation which doesn't really exist.
It helps build my understanding of how people think and how easy it is to convince people en masse to ignore logic and common sense and do something against their own interest - a demonstration in exploitation by the 'leaders'
Lots of similarities for me regards (more extreme) cases of misplaced nationalism e.g. Stalin Russia, the 3rd reich, pol pot etc
It's a case of create a grievance , tell people things are bad because of said grievance , get lots of people to agree that things would be better if the grievance thing was removed - regardless of logic
Shakes I think is more intelligent and argues for sport and acedemic interest ; others such as Elantan are more worrying as they seem to lack any coherence or logic ... to me it's blind devotion to cause they don't understand and the consequences of which are lost on them - history shows this can be very dangerous

I think you have answered your own question.
It's a fascinating and often entertaining demonstration of how people can indeed "ignore logic and common sense" in a "cult like alignment to a philosophy", but not so much "of national pride", rather one of the 'SNP.' I say this, because it is quite possible to have pride in your nation (however defined) without promoting the farago of delusional nonsense that drives the fish thread.
I drop in there now and again to drop another fact bomb, in a (undoubtedly vain) attempt to stem the tide of delusion.
P.S. You are also correct in referring to it as a 'debate'; because there is precious little actual debate on the thread.0 -
For those of us in rUK being able to dump the liability that is Scotland (and NI while we were at it) would bring huge fiscal dividends.I think....0

Simple answer?
To oppose the deceit and blind devotion that some would have the rest of the UK believe is normal in Scotland.
It isn't.
More and more Scots are beginning to understand just how incompetent the SNP are.
Besides that just look at SNP votes as a % of the electorate.
2016 Scottish Parliamentary election.
Turnout 55.6% from a potential 4,099,077
SNP constituency vote share 46.5%
That equates to about a quarter of eligible-to-vote Scots voting for the SNP.
Now I don't want to take over the thread and begin a debate, that is what the "fish" thread is for.
But even from that figure you can see that - for whatever reason - not so many Scots are solidly pro-SNP as some would have the rest of the UK believe.
The forthcoming GE will either prove or disprove that, and we have not got that long to wait to find out.0 -

I post on the fish thread mainly for these reasons ^^^^
Apologies if my perseverance on this subject has irritated
I'm not party politically motivated anymore, but I think it's important to stand up to things that are wrong and that will effect the most vulnerable in our society.
"All evil needs to flourish is for good men (Women) is to do nothing etc".....apologies for any misquote.
I think most, (but not all), pro indy posters on the fish thread pose a real danger to the society I cherish, they need stood up to, not just in forums, but in our communities as well.
That's why I post.0 -

It echos my point that in the end the SNP will be seen to be as incompetent, venal and corrupt as the other parties they simply haven't had the opportunity to be viewed in that way yet as they haven't had long enough in power.

You also need an alternative party and Labour was never it as they were the ones being rejected. It looks like the Tories might just be able to be a proper opposition and Government in waiting in Scotland. The next step is to move from being in waiting to being the Government.Money doesn’t make you happy—it makes you unhappy in a better part of town. David Siegel0
