Property abroad

My friend bought property in India about 10 years ago. 2 years ago he died suddenly but there was nothing in his will about the property. As he only used the holiday home twice a year, a indian friend of ours lived there, and did all the repairs etc, plus paid a rent and looked after my friends dog. Before he died he had said to me and other people that if anything had happened to him he wanted the property to stay with our friend so he could continue to look after the animals.

A solicitor is now phoning our friend in India wanting telephone nos of anyone who knew our friends wishes. What is going on do you think.
