Any tips for saving money on home improvements folks?

I've decided to move on - I'm not in love with my home the way I was, and I have a lot of equity available. Selling up will leave me debt free and with a substantial nest egg which I plan to start saving on top of, instead of spending!

To get the best price for my flat it needs a little work - it would be bad economy not to do it and lose anything substantial from the sale price. Still, in my MSE mad head, I dont want to spend a penny on it I dont have to - especially when I won't be living here to feel the benefit!

I'd say I need a little plasterwork done, the heating needs an overhaul (a new timer, and radiators bled - but the boiler etc is still sound) and some new worktops and hob in the kitchen.

I'm more than happy to get in around the painting and decorating myself thereafter - the jobs above are beyond me though!

Any suggestions on saving on this or selling a home welcome...

Firstly - you Can bleed radiators, anyone can do it! Even girly people like me.

Word of mouth is always the best recommendation.
And getting guys (it is always guys) to boast how cheap they got some work done, you then get introduced to some good one man businesses.

You could post on the home-improvements forum. I had a query and got the most amazing technical and informed responses. They were very helpful.
