HMRC e-mail to submit S.A.?

My O.H. has had an e-mail requesting submission of a S.A.
The only reason he was submitting one for the last few years was to claim back tax on savings interest as he was retired but not eligible for pensions at the time.

I also did S.A for the same reason but when my 2 pensions kicked in HMRC notified me I didn't need to submit one as I was then paying tax.

He also started paying tax last year with his pensions and also gave me his M.A..
I went onto the Government website to see what criteria was necessary to pay S.A and he does not fulfil any of those conditions

It also said you could de-register from S.A. by contacting HMRC.
I was hoping you could do it on-line but couldn't see anywhere, does this mean he'll have tp actually speak to someone?

  • There is an additional criteria unfortunately which is - if HMRC issue a notice to file then you must file. Check back on your OH's online record and clarify that it states that a self-assessment return for 2016/17 is awaited. If he believes that he no longer 'fits the criteria, then he will have to speak to someone (7.45 -8.30 am is best) or use snail mail.

    Update.
Info said he could apply to de-register on-line
Trying to access personal tax didn't work as the access code never arrived, apparently there has been some problems with that.

Managed to have a web-chat, took about 3 minutes, and the advisor, after a couple of questions checked and then de-registered him from S.A., said he would be getting a letter to confirm this.

Can't quite believe this was solved , printed out chat to keep reading it!:D
