Advice on taking food on holiday

Hi,
In desperation, and at last minute, I joined cos nowhere else seems to cover my query. I have checked Customs and Excise and all the major Airways hold baggage restrictions. NOTHING. So, flying out to Benidorm Wednesday next early a.m. Going self-catering for the second time (we obviously loved it first time round). A lot of stuff we like is either unobtainable, or obtainable, but at a price. We have modest tastes, but paying over £3.00 for a small tin of red salmon gripes a bit. As does the price of mature cheddar, tinned roe, Aldi bacon, Fray Bentos corned beef and Marks and Spencer tinned ham. Not to mention Lurpak butter. Someone help please. Can we take this stuff in our suitcases?
Forever grateful for a prompt response as has to catch some sleep meanwhile.0 -
Brindsey, I don't know the answer to what you can take (but I suspect there are no restrictions on the movement of tinned food within the EU). However, I would have thought you would be better off just buying fresh food locally? The reason those foods are pricey is because they aren't what people who live in Benidorm actually eat, so they are over-priced in order to make a profit from tourists/expats. The way to eat cheaply on holiday is to eat what the locals eat: lots of fruit and veg (well, maybe not veg, if my spanish experiences are accurate!), fresh ham, Spanish cheese, olive oil rather than butter, etc.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I would think that tinned stuff is ok, but be careful of packets, such as bacon and butter. I don't know if the foot and mouth thing has made any difference.
The main problem would be weight, now we are tightly restricted.
Going back a few years a lot of people took big cool boxes with them and put them into the hold along with the suitcases as it is cold in there.
