Has anyone ever worked as a 'picker' with a hourly pickrate?

So i just started this job as a picker, and the decision if they keep me on is if i can achieve the pick rate of a minimum 110 items per hour.. has anyone worked as a picker using the vocollect system?

  • Are they those awful sounding gun devices? I forget which nationality is said to be best! Least you know now though rather then have it hidden is the mindset I try and have.

I was a picker/packer for a brief spell about just over 10 years as a stopgap, our structure back then in a rather tiny beauty and plastic jewellery company was different as it was linked to the hourly pay you'd receive which wasn't really known until come first review and you could pick which orders you'd pick, boy did I learn then which orders to try and get!! This structure was rather then toss you out so I don't know which was worse. Spent 6 months being told I really should pursue another career which I did!

To manage my stats now on phone calls alone I'm very careful when I go for my comfort breaks and ensure very rarely are they on work time. That my only rest time really is 'lunch time'.

    What are you actually asking?

Nearly all decent sized warehouses work this way. Even those behind the times that use paper printouts have a rate associated.
The usual way it works is that you start at the bottom as a grunt picker and after a few years you get the chance to train on some other warehousing jobs that are a bit easier. If you want to move up then never go sick, don't have any accidents or disciplinary's and volunteer for any overtime offered. It sucks but that's how it works nowadays.

Can you achieve the pick rate ?

What is it you want from asking if anyone has worked as a picker using the vocollect system ?
