Mortgages PLC Retrospective Charging

Hi,
Yesterday I recieved a letter from Mortgages PLC stating that they had omitted to increase their mortgage rate in July or to, until now, inform me of this. They stated, that due to this my account was now in arrears and I would have to bring my account up to date ( this amounts to £55.31, 2.5% over 2 months).
They also threaten to add this amount to my account balance and charge intrest on it should I not comply.
Am I correct in thinking that they are not leagaly allowed to do this? Their mistake - they pay.:j

Hi,
This is taking some sorting but it does appear that Mortgages cannot do this as any contract that allowed such behaviour would be unlawfull. Planning to take this all the way. That will take some time. In the mean time if you find yourself in the same position I would urge you to fight this.

They agreed they were not entitled to take these charges. The original contract would not allow this, also this was there mistake and the law would not allow this. Saved about £75.00. How about you!
