My 15 year old Zanussi is beginning to go.Am wondering whether to go for big load John Lewis own brand which I understand is made by the same manufactuer as Zanussi or get a Miele Paragon from them.
I know both are relatively expensive but would rather have a reliable machine than a cheaper one.
Also saw something about an LG steam technology one which said was suitable for dry clean only items which would be handy in my case.Has anyone got any experience of these washing machines or any advice? - thanks

Have you had a look here we have just replaced our machine and found the comet auctions really good, we got a LG 1600 spin washing machine and only paid £245 plus delivery when the machine is onsite at £549 ok it had a couple of little marks and a dent at the back but for that price i dont really care a i struggled to find the marks. If you dont see what you want and can wait then ive seen a few of the LG steam machines on there closing price varies £320 to the highest £550 sometimes there are even ones with no marks. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Have a look on the UK Whitegoods forums, they are run by engineers who will happily make recommendations based on what they repair or own themselves. Most of them rave about Miele for all appliances. We have a Miele dishwasher and it is fabulous, definately worth every penny (previously owned a Bosch, Indesit, Hotpoint and Hoover)0

My s-i-law swears by her Miele stuff- it is very expensive though.
however, the general opinion from people I work with (we are all engineers so not daft) is that most brands of washing machines only seem to last a few years these days, (compared to the old days- my Tricity Bendix was over 10 when it died) so you're best buying a cheap and cheerful one. We got a Hoover brand machine for £199 with 1600rpm spin and a 5 or 6kg load from Comet a couple of years ago- it was on clearance, does the job and sadly, will be more economical to replace than repair when the time comes...
If I'd had the money at the time I'd have bought a Miele, since I hate the 'disposable' aspect of cheap machines:mad:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
