in Cutting tax
I have previously had to complete a Self Assessment form for the last 4 years due to the amount of interest I received.Due to the fall in interest rates during 2016/17 I spoke to HMRC and they agreed that my SA account would be closed and no return would be necessary.
However today I received a form R40 (claim for refund of tax on savings and investment.) I know that I have not paid any tax in 2016/7 so I wonder why they have sent the form?
Anyone have thoughts about this, Can I safely just ignore the form?

There is no requirement to complete the form if there is nothing to claim back.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Thanks I will just bin it. Puzzled though as to why HMRC would send the form to me, as they will know. I have not paid any tax.0 -
Tax is still deducted from some interest payments although I would have thought they would have only sent out the form if they were expecting you to have had such a payment i.e. you had forewarned them or requested the form yourself.0
