Self Assessment

Hi,
Not sure if this is the forum to place this post. If not could a mod move it to a more relevant section.
I need to register for my first self assessment after undertaken freelance work last financial year. I've completed the SA1 form and have it ready to send when i noted something. I am also employed full-time and obvious that tax is dealt with on a PAYE basis. On my P60 record my name is recorded as my first name and surname. On the SA1 form it request forenames, i have a middle name do i put this on that form or not being that my middle name is not shown on my P60? This may seem a trivial question and may not really matter but i don't want to cause issues on my tax records by adding my middle name to the SA1 form when it isn't on my P60.

Form P60 is prepared and issued by your employer and they do not send a copy of it to HMRC anymore so no reason not to complete the SA1 form correctly.
If you want to check HMRC are getting your PAYE income details from your employer you can view them on your personal tax account on gov.uk.0 -
Thanks junk, I think it would be more sensible if this was on the tax board in case there are any experts there. From my own experience of filling in SA forms I wouldn't worry one way or the other. There are plenty of other ways (such as DOB and NI number) to check that you are the same person whether or not you have a middle name
Edited to add - ooo, you have already had one helpful reply, so I'll leave it here after all and see how it goes - I can always move it later.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Thanks for the advice, double checked my details as you suggested and they HMRC also don't include my middle name so for the purposes of the SA1 i will just use my first name.0 -
I'm not 100% certain that is the right decision. Bearing in mind all the checks now done on people, your HMRC record will not agree with your passport/birth certificate. Should you change your job it COULD cause you minor difficulties. It is what HMRC knows you by that matters not what your employer knows you by. As an example my last employer always used the name I am known by on all official documents even though it was not the name HMRC used (my official name)- it was never a problem.0
