Porridge oats versus readybrek

I know porridge oats are less processed than readybrek (or hot oat cereal from Aldi) but the amount of added vitamins and calcium in the latter are swaying me towards readybrek. Nutritionly they are very similar apart from the added vits according to the packs. I prefer the taste of normal porridge over the readybrek but the added vitamins would be a big bonus...
It's so confusing, are there any impartial experts who can advise on this?
This is for me and the children btw.

I would go for the porridge oats. We use medium oatmeal, as it's more filling than rolled oatflakes. OH has his with milk, I do mine just with plain water.

I eat Mornflake Oatbran. Add hot water & salt, stick it in the microwave for 1 minute ... and voila, a delicious & nutritious start to the day.

    Porridge oats.

They add extra vitamins to cereals because the processing takes the natural vitamins out or they want to make the product appear "healthy".

You shouldn't need added vitamins and too much vitamins can actually harm you.

    Porridge oats.

If are concerned about how many vitamins you are getting through the rest of your diet, buy some powder vitamins and add it to the porridge, will still work out cheaper than ready brek.
  • I do prefer the taste and texture of porridge oats to readybrek so I'm glad you all agree that porridge is better.
In Aldi there's a value one and a harvest moon porridge oats, I'm guessing the only difference will be price and the quality should be the same?

Readybrek is a classic example of the creative and profitable reuse of byproduct that is essentially waste material from a pharmaceutical process.

Porridge oats are a good honest natural food, grown for centuriesand with nothing added or needed to add - except to taste.

    Make your own choices. :)

Buy porridge oats and make it from scratch, a lot of the brands like Quaker contain a ridiculous amount of sugar.

I'd say use oats and add your own extra seeds and fruits for the vitamins
