Tesco Question

hiya everyone got a quick question for anyone that works at tesco, to cut a long story short.. i applied for a job at tesco last thursday had the interview on monday and a hour and half work sample on tuesday, by friday i got a phone call saying i got the job which i am happy about, attended the induction today and was given the offer letter had a look through it and noticed it wasnt full time, it was part time...now when i was interviewed i was led to believe that the postion that i applied for was full time only (which i was all for going full time as it was what i was after hence why i applied for that job) i haven't signed the offer letter yet as im not sure what todo anyway to my questions.
Who do i talk to about getting full time hours?
What are the chances of tesco agreeing to give me full time hours?
If they cant give me full time hours is it possible to get a couple more shifts (contracted)?

im really not happy that they have led me to believe it is full time a job and only get given part time its annoyed me quite a bit and i start on monday so its not really a lot of time to get things sorted...

anyway thankyou in advance to anyone that replies to my questions

  • Dont know if its the same as ASDA but I think they dont employ ANY full time workers at asda they are all part time but may work more hours etc. So it may be just the case of it says part time but the hours you wanted will still be on there and any extra is just done with overtime?
  • hi I have been working for tescos for about a month and they dont seem to take on anyone full time to start off with, I have about 11 contracted hours but most weeks there is more available in the form of overtime but this week I was unlucky but I want to take on a second job or go full time elsewhere. you just need to be flexible and quick off the mark re overtime.

Sorry this is off topic but I thought someone here might be able to answer me.

The pay rate depends on what part of the country you live. I moved house and went from a Tesco in Cornwall and was on £6.10 an hour to the same job on the tills the following week in Wiltshire and got £6.80 an hour. I left Tesco three years ago.

Glad your pay went up when you moved but the fact that you got paid 70p hr. less for exactly the same role within exactly the same company is outrageous!....Did you inform your earlier colleagues and give them a chance to challenge this with management? I would have!
I constantly question why wages down here in Devon and Cornwall are so consistently low, it's an insult! We have a comparably high cost of living here, it's just not warranted IMHO?!!

Does it say in the letter how many hours a week youd be workin, id accept the offer if the amount of hours is nearly full time rate, if you want more hours i guess it would be your dept manager youd speak to about it,

They only do this for the chance to rip you off when you want holidays.
What happens is your contract says 15 hrs,so say you want a weeks holiday they only have to pay you 15 hrs for the full week. Its the same with sick pay.
If you dont ask you dont get!!
