Hello
Has anyone had a dentist recommending an oral irrigator to them.
And if so, which one.
Thanks

My dentist said they are not as good as flossing and he would only recommend them to someone who couldn't floss at all.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. You started an identical thread in February. Nothing has changed since then!

1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Indeed.
But that thread flew off at a tangent onto other topics.0 -
I asked my hygienist this a couple of months ago and she said they are not worth it. A packet of floss is all you need and you get no better results from anything high tech. I'm a lass who likes my tech, and I stick to the packet of floss and my electric toothbrush.0

Lets hope that doesn't happen here then, eh?
But oral irrigators are more expensive than, and not as good as, much cheaper & simpler interdental cleaning aids like floss picks or Tepe brushes. How to find a dentist.

Tepes are good at bigger spaces, floss good at small. The combination should do everything - just what do you think the irrigator is for then? Cleaning the sink afterwards? How to find a dentist.

Can I ask: supposing someone already has a good irrigator, is it acceptable to use on its own, or do you think it still needs Tepe brushes?
Personally I've not been able to get on with Tepes or floss.0
