Quote for 4.85kWp on a slate roof. Seems pricey

Has anyone hear of Forever Green renewables? They came out to quote yesterday and were lovely but seemed a bit pricey.

The quote:
4.86kWp system
17x285W Eternity Black Mono Panels
SolarEdge Inverter
17P300 Optimisers
Fitting etc to a 45d slate roof
£7106.40

TiA for any help

Two years ago I paid £6300 for a 4kW system with an immersion heater diversion, therefore that sounds a lot to me.

I'd go on line and search for reliable companies in your area and get three quotes before making your decision as to which one to trust with your money.

Not sure if it is the same company, but we used http://www.forevergreen-energy.co.uk/ in 2015 for installing our 4kwp system. They are based in Cheltenham. The engineer/sales person was very helpful & not pushy. They did an excellent job.

It was about £2k cheaper than what you have been quoted.

We got six quotes at the time and choose the company that gave us the best value for money (not the cheapest, but good quality panels & inverter).
  • They are indeed the same company. I wondered how much difference the slate would have to the price.

It's not a simple install as its across two roofs at 95d to each other but it did seem just a bit too much. Any haggling advice?

Hiya. I've also heard that slate is slightly more work (than tiles), but it should only be a tiny difference.

Definitely get a few quotes. I saved about £300 by organising the scaffolding myself (the installer wasn't local and asked if I could find a company, and gave me a £500 budget (back in 2012). Expect to pay a bit more than a single roof scaffolding install, but only a 'bit' as a lot of the costs are in the 4 trips and time going back and for to the house/business.

Tough to guess at prices these days, but ideally less than £6k all in?

Other thoughts and ideas on what to ask can be found in the FAQs (see my autosig).
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

The across two rooves is also not really an issue - just an extra £300 or so for the second scaffolding. otherwise the costs are virtually the same - just in two places rather than one and even on one roof you are likely to run with two strings, so cabling is the same...

A slate roof is considerably more work than a interlocking tile roof.

Takes twice as long and costs more think typically an extra £750 if the roof is slate and you are fitting around 4-5kw.

If you need scaffold (H&S) due to conservatory or working close to gables then you can another £750 plus.

Does not sound expensive to me.
