Northern Rock Together ISA mortgage +

I found some old paperwork from my first mortgage in 2001. I was single, 25 and buying my first house. I wasn't very finance savvy and always felt there was something not right.
Typical situation - see a house in the window of an estate agent - they send me upstairs to their IFA.
Having reviewed the paperwork - I was sold a Norther Rock Together Mortgage (£84k secured / £29k unsecured) - ISA Mortgage. The ISA part was L&G - and included death and critical illness cover. I was also sold a further critical illness and death policy with Norwich Union. I am not even sure how I ended up with this - most of the paperwork shows repayment. As a single 25 year old, with no dependants I cannot see that this was suitable.
I had 4 x death in service with my job (£30k basic)
Should I / can I make a complaint to Northern Rock or the IFA firm ?

As life & critical illness cover may at that time have been cheaper than stand-alone critical illness, you may find including life cover was cost-free.
As an example, until recently, Aviva offered only life & critical illness cover on a decreasing basis. There was no decreasing critical illness option on a stand-alone basis.
When we explain critical illness payout relies on surviving 28 days after the diagnosis and adding life cover free (or for a small extra premium now) many choose to add the life cover so there is a payout either way.I am a mortgage broker.
