Saddleworth though is very leafy and affluent. It is historically part of Yorkshire and only came under the administration of Oldham council in the 70s.

I always remember it as if you had enough money you bought a nice detached house or later a nice old cottage there. I never had enough money so had to make do with Moorside.

Why are developers still building places with garages? Modern cars don't need to be stored under cover and everyone just uses them to store stuff, so you could just build in a large storage cupboard and have a further room as well.

Dunno about you, but not everyone wants a motorcycle in the living room...

They must still have some appeal or they would stop building them I suppose! I'd happily knock my detached garage down and have more garden, if it wasn't attached to next doors! Next door use theirs for a little sports car and a bike though, and I know others on the street use them for cars and for things like pedal bikes, lawn mowers etc rather than a garden shed which would be smaller and probably damper after a few years.

Using the number of properties showing as SSTC on Rightmove is a a very poor indicator of how active a market is in my opinion... the last property I sold was still showing up on Rightmove as SSTC 5 MONTHS after the sale had been completed, obviously just an estate agent ploy to make it look like lots of properties are selling and you need to dive in now and buy before it's too late.

I find it useful to see how long a house has been on before the 'under offer' or 'sold' sign appears. I know there can be a time lag between the offer being accepted and it appearing as sstc on Rightmove, I've been told some I wanted to view were already under offer even though they showed as still available.

I've only seen one that was still on Rightmove long after actually being sold. I check the sold prices to see what the houses on my shortlist actually sold for, and get the dates from there. I must sound like I spend my life on Rightmove :rotfl:
I will be glad to take a very long break from it when I find a house :)
