What's the law in the UK when you work retail and the store's opening and closing times are say nine to five but you're expected to arrive early and stay late to prep for opening and then cash up at the end of the day?
If you're on a wage should you get paid for those additional hours? What if you're on a salary but the job was advertised with a specific number of hours that didn't include opening and closing times?

If you're on minimum / living wage, then you should be paid for those additional hours. If you're on a salary see what your t&c say about overtime / needs of the business etc. If you've not been there for two years beware of drawing attention to yourself, join a union, and work with your colleagues to resolve the situation. Otherwise you may find the situation is resolved for you.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I work in retail and I'm contracted half an hour after the shop closes for 3 days out 5. Sundays, I am also contracted to work the 30 mins before.
There are colleagues that work 2-3 hours before and after the shop closes. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
