I have to replace our old, single glazed, timber framed windows. Can't afford to pay outright for new windows & have a rubbish credit rating it seems! Does anyone think I will be able to get them on finance?

If you get tax credits or any other government support for low income, you might be able to get a 0% loan from the Scottish Government. The scheme is called HEEPS.

I just checked and it has changed slightly since I last looked for it but the best thing to do is to call Home Energy Scotland and they will be able to advise you.
