Buying a house but which mortgage company is best?

Asking for my brother.
They have two mortgage approvals - one with Lloyds and one with Barclays (woolwich).
Both are ideal and they don't want to apply for any others and have too many applications, so they will go with one or the other.
Does anyone have experience with either of the two or even both? Who's best for customer service and with getting a better deal?
