Bad Hair Day!

My hair badly needs highlighting. Unfortunately in London this means about £100 even at a cheap local hairdressers.
Any tips?
I've heard of a product that you can use inbetween to touch up the roots, but I can't find it on the internet. Although I've used my daily clicks to try and find it
!
Please don't suggest going back to my natural colour. There are way too many greys now

moriarty... are there any colleges in your area? the reason i ask is many have hairdressing courses with built in salons... it will mean a 1st/2nd year student colouring your hair (with supervision) however its much cheaper... our local is only £15 whereas shops charge £55+0

you could use the loreal highlighting kit, its about 6 quid roughly, and its available most places!! You get an all over dye, then a streaking/highlighting kit to use afterwards
hope this helps

Hi Moriarty
I haven't used root touch up kits but they sound fab. Thought I'd just share my hair experience...
A few months back, being skint, I put 2 box dyes on my waist length highlighted hair to save money. I looked like morticia adams (if she ate uncle fester!)
Needless to say I'm now under the care of a hairdresser and am blonde again. I'd rather cut back on other things, and have fab hair, for the confidence boost.

Well, that's it. I spent last Christmas looking like a tangerine, so am a bit wary of home kits. However, I've found one on the internet called Nice 'n' Easy, Root Touch Up.
it's always just that front bit that looks awful as it grows out. So going to try the above on that bit...!
I'l get back to you and tell you how it goes. Can I post pictures?!?
I agree though, would rather do without lunch for a week than have to look at my miserable mousey brown locks!

yes, post a pic - if it works I'll probably give it a bash as well... not that you're a guinea pig or anything
good luck:D*** PROPHECY_GRRL****** DEBT FREE AS OF 17/10/11 - I DID IT!!! ***0 -
I have the same problem.. I got quotes for a simple cut and colour... cheapest I found was about £88 and we live in South staffordshire!!
In the end I bought a box of black dye (£4 something) and a box of red highilighting stuff(again about £4 something) and got DH to help me. I also trimmed it myself and feel so much better.
total cost approx £10 and a few hours of my time. Total saved £77!
This is the result but the pics were taken before I cut it. The only difference now is that it's neater and the black is an inch or so shorter than the red for dramatic effectTotal 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
