allergic rhinitis - coughing

I have been diagnosed with allergic rhinitis after continual coughing for around 6 months. My consultant informed me that it is caused by allergies and the body produces more mucus to flush away the allergies, hence the coughing.

I stupidly forgot to ask the consultant what type of allergy may be triggering my coughing. Is there a test to find out what allergies could be causing my allergic rhinitis? I would suspect it's either dust or dust mites because I have been coughing throughout the winter.

IgE antibodies are the usual allergic antibodies. That can be tested with a skin (p)(rhymes with nick) test against allergens and if the skin reacts with a red bump then it indicates a reaction to the allergen. I had this test done at an ear nose and throat clinic in a NHS hospital referred by my GP. It's not the most accurate of tests but it does give an indication.

I showed allergens to dust mites, various pollens and common foods that I had been eating. Chances are you are allergic to more than you might think. This is caused by increased histamine release. I never used to react to pollen until I was about 13 and something which proceeded this when I was 12 led to my reaction to pollen.

Do you get symptoms when you eat or drink anything? Such as a watery nose and increased saliva? Or is it solely when you are exposed to dust or pollen? Chances are that the reaction when you eat might be more noticeable in future.

Ask GP to be referred for allergy testing.
    I had constant sinusitis
Test showed house dust & house dust mites, plus some tree pollens (but which??)
I got protective covers for pillows and wash bedding at 60 degrees.
Damp dust- stops the dust from swirling around!
Much improved, and that was years ago.
I also find avoiding dairy , esp cow's milk products is helpful
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Also mould spores can be an allergen. Do you have any patches of mould in your home?

No, my symptoms are the same all of the time

    No patches of mould anywhere.

I am sure that the problem is something to do when I moved into this property around four years ago that's when my symptoms started. There seems to be an excessive amount of dust in the property and it seems to be a fibrey kind of dust, also the back of my property is a woods, so tree pollen might come into play? What does tree pollen look like? Does it resemble a fibrey kind of dust?
  • Something has to have triggered the reaction to pollens etc to begin with.

Wheat, gluten and dairy are big culprits along with any processed foods containing un-natural ingredients.
More and more people are getting these allergies due to the high amount of these products being consumed.

Try a diet from from un-natural ingredients for 3 months and you might just find the cure.

Tree pollen and mold from decaying leaves could be part of the problem.

I would have thought unlikely due to daily cleaning. Or is it some carpets continually give off fibres?
