Solicitor has advised us that the seller has owned the property for < 6mnths

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone can help me at all...
My partner and I have had our mortgage agreed in principle.
We have an offer accepted on a house, however the solicitor has advised us that the seller has not owned the property for 6 months.
So our mortgage adviser has to contact our solicitor to discuss the matter. But as it's the weekend I don't think I will rest until I have a better understanding
The seller purchased the property to upgrade and sell on just in January.
So as it has only been 3 months do my partner and I have to wait until July to apply for the mortgage, OR can we still get our mortgage processed but have the day we sign the dotted line with the solicitor after the 6 month time?
We are in Scotland and I am not sure if there is any difference between here, England and Wales.
Any help or information would be much appreciated.

It varies from lender to lender. Some lenders do not have this 6 month rule in place at all.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
