"professional" laundry detergent and laundry moneysaving

Hi all,
Does anyone on here use the professional sized laundry detergents? If so is there any difference in the concentration of the product compared to domestic equivalents.

The reason I ask is because I'm looking to save money on our laundry. I already only use about half the recommended dose of our current detergent and the fabric softener is diluted down 1 part softener to 5 parts water as it's just so thick it never fully gets washed away (the machine is level, the drawer and the rest of the machine is spotless).

I don't know the answer to your question, but I don't use fabric softener at all. Ever. Just think how much I've saved over the 40+ years I've been doing my own washing!!

I tried this but my wife complained. She's american if that says anything..

As a compromise it was agreed we would use a half measure yet she still complains that's not enough.

I too only use white vinegar for softening, and half the stated amount of powder/detergent and a handful of washing soda crystals and I have been washing stuff for 55 years and never had any complaints I feel sure that too much detergent doesn't do your clothes any good I remember year ago when Ariel bio first came on the market and I washed some tea towels in it and they virtually were shredded and went into a very religious condition (very holy )I now use Aldi's non bio and half a capful with a handful of soda crystals is enough to get my washing clean ,but then I am an old woman and don't get very mucky clothes .different I suppose if you do a mucky job and have overalls or something.years ago when my late OH had to wear overalls I used to boil them up in a copper (baby burco) and then rinse by hand (no automatics in those days) then wring them out by hand and they would then hang on the line over the weekend to dry off God I hated those blessed things and was glad when he no longer had to wear them.As most folk change their clothes daily most stuff doesn't get that diryty so you don't need to do the sorts of washing that was once the norm. I do a boil wash for towels and sheets etc but even then I still only need half the amount and my faithful soda crystals .

Well the answer is, professional and domestic detergents are the same! See below from a P&G rep.

I buy the bigger ones and you definitely save money. Especially if you're not brand conscious and buy which ever is on offer.

That's the plan. I don't think we can get much cheaper than Wilko own brand laundry detergent but I'm not too happy with it because it leaves a small amount of residue no matter how much or little used.

I picked up a small bottle of Daz just to compare.

I don't have that but I use vinegar and powdered detergents to ensure that my clothes get washed properly and this has worked best for me so I keep using this formula although I use a fabric softener .

I do not have a professional detergent but I use Ariel detergent in for wahing my clothes and it works best for me

Gave up on detergent and fab conditioner - only use Liquid Soapflakes (no need for softener - better for your clothes) - so gentle you can use it to wash your body too!
