Help with clearing your debts....

Hi all ;D

Not sure that this is the right place to post this but here goes anyway ::)

I have been gradually clearing my debts over the past twelve months. I don't owe as much as some on this site :o but much more than others :-[. I have found debt settling quite boring really as the money goes out of the account never to be seen again.

Not anymore.

I have livened things up by making a note of every single penny I save over the course of a month then using the same amount to pay off an extra debt. For example, I booked some tickets for a football match this morning, and simply by paying in advance I saved a total of £5.55 over pay-on-the-day admission. Its just a bit of fun really but at the end of Month 2, you feel quite chuffed that you managed to save more than Month 1 and it spurs you on to save even more in Month 3. I guess pretty soon it will be Asda Smart Price beans on Asda Smart Price Toasted Bread but hey, who cares, I'm having fun.

Silly post really, but I feel a whole lot better about saving money than I did before.

Happy saving ;D

Martin ( no, not that one :P)

    Good on you! ;D

I've managed to halve my debts over the past year by doing similar things. Also, if there's something I need/want (usually want), I spend days, if not weeks, thinking about and visualising it, until I'm absolutely certain it's the thing I need. Then I do the shopbot thing, then the on foot slog round the shops. It sounds like a chore, but it's completely stopped my impulse buying habit, and has saved a small fortune!

Best of luck with clearing the rest.

Well I'm on the  Asda beans (not the bread tho)!
Like you, I'm finding it quite a challenge in my efforts to clear my debt.

Last week I cancelled my TV pack which saved £10 and of course my TV licence...another £10 month and I don't miss it as I'm always on the comp. I've cut back on my fuel debits as I was always overpaying..saving another £6 month.

I've got 3 energy bulbs and never put the lights on in the other rooms!

I've started rolling my own ciggies...saving at least £60 month.

It gets a bit addictive doesn't it? Making savings. Only wish I'd done this in the first place and never go into debt.

This site was my inspiration to finally take action. It will be a while yet before I see any difference but I'm on the right road.

Forgot my international phonecalls too...now pay 1p min to Australia instead of 5p.
