Bank of ireland reviews?

Hi,
My broker has suggested BOI for my mortgage but when i google them all i can find are negative reviews... and not many posts about them on here...
are they a decent mortgage provider or am i better off going with nationwide/first direct?
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Ive only used them twice, both times they were fine. I do not use them often, but I can not think of anything bad to say about them.

I had a mortgage with them forb5 years until last week. At the end of the day, it's a mortgage so not like u have daily dealings. Everytime I had a query was never waiting for more than 5-7 minutes. Staff were helpful.
Only thing to watch out is what happens to overpayments. We had 10% allowance for overpayments every year, and we used that. Only option for overpayments was that they reduce monthly payment and not term or any behind the scene magic calculations. It was fine for us as in the end we remortgaged so it didn't matter but make sure you are happy with this arrangement.0 -
I switched mortgages a couple of years ago, to BOI and everything was straight-forward and no complaints. The mortgages offered by the Post Office are provided by BOI.0

We've just had a mortgage approved with them and I can't fault them to be honest, everything has happened very quick and the offer was made within 36 hours of the valuation being completed. :money:0

If you dont mind me asking, how long between applying and getting a valuation booked and done? My broker has been on holiday until tomorrow and the whole thing is just delayed! stressing its going to take weeks for all this to catch up0 -
It wasn't long to be honest.
It was something like:
DIP on 24th March.
Full application made on 27th March by broker.
Valuation instructed on 29th March - by this time I had a hard search on 24th and soft search on 29th on my credit rating from BOI.
Valuer couldn't get in the property for 11 days which was the only delay and was due to the sellers being at work - not for lack of trying.
As soon as they got in on the afternoon of the 10th the offer was made, morning of 13th, 09:28am to be exact.
2 days later all the paperwork came in the post.0 -
I had them as a lender at one point in the past - professional and responsive when I dealt with them for a few things.0

We've had quite a lot of compensation out of them, ordered by the financial ombudsman, following 2 complaints.Zebras rock0

Why are you looking for reviews?
The vast majority of people have no contact with their mortgage provider after the initial application and the annual statement until they pay the mortgage off. There is very little to offer on a constructive review.
Most of their mortgages are done via brokers. So, many of their borrowers would have no contact with them apart from letters.but when i google them all i can find are negative reviews
Welcome to internet reviews. People who are happy tend not to post anything. The vast majority of people wouldnt even think about reviewing their mortgage company. So, you are left with a smaller number who have had issues. Some caused by the lender. Some caused by the borrower who is blaming the lender incorrectly.

I aim to make overpayments at some stage and would need to contact them to do this. I accept that many people don't really care what they are like as long as the rate is good.
I suppose as i work for a bank i wanted to know they were an okay lender.
