Gas leak

Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a lovely Easter break!

We had a gas leak this morning and Phoenix came out and turned the gas off. The leak is in the pipe that comes out of the driveway and goes into the gas box. The Phoenix guy said I need to get the plumber who fitted the gas out but he hasn't replied to my message and every plumber I've tried is off this week... I could cry lol! No heating or hot water for a week isn't how I planned to spend the Easter break!

Does anyone know a gas engineeer in the Lisburn area who is working this week? From looking online it appears that in England if the leak is before the meter your supplier will fix it... I assume that isn't the case in NI?

Thanks for reading!

If the leak is before the meter surely turning off at the meter will not stop the leak?

Don't know about NI but how much of the grid is your responsibility? Perhaps what is on your property?

  • Hi, thanks for your response. Sorry, I'm clueless! The engineer who came out showed me where the leak is and it's in the pipe that comes out from the ground into the meter. I know he went down the street with his equipment so I'm not sure if he was turning it off somewhere else.

  • We have come back from holidays and when we walked in the house we had a funny smell when walking into the living room. We thought it was because we had been away for two weeks and the house was cold. Had friends over and later that night they mentioned that they could smell gas when they had walked in, but again we put it down to not being at home and the house needed to warm up and would take time once we settled back in.
I am a little concerned now because the living room/kitchen especially when i get up in the mornings do still smell slightly gas abd getting a bit worried that i need to call out an emergency leak.
Has anyone got the number please and i am hoping its noting but rather be safe than sorry.

We don't know who your supplier is.......Bottled gas = Calor, Belfast = Phoenix, Outside of Belfast probably Firmus.

Either way if it's inside your house you should have a gas fitter who regularly inspects your appliances and it will be them that you need to speak to probably.
