Your doctors advice is just advice.
If you want to do more hours then do more hours, but if you hurt yourself as a result it will be your fault and not your managers or doctors. Do reduced hours and see how you feel first.0 -

That is quite correct but some (many?) employers can be super cautious about this and may be reluctant to allow more hours than the doctor has advised. Don't be altogether surprised if you run into that reaction.0 -

This could be for insurance reasons too.
They might insist on a note from the doctor saying you're fit for work, which hopefully shouldn't be too hard to obtain...
If your manager has said it's own to you then do what you like! There's nothing legally stopping you.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

yeah but in this case the manager was fine with it which is why i worded it the way i did.0 -
If the doctors advice is that you are only fit to work reduced hours, the manager is a lunatic for saying you can work more. They know what the advice says. And if something goes wrong as a result of you both ignoring this advices, the employer and you could end up in hot water. If you believe that you are fit for full time work, get your doctor to confirm this. If they won't, you are dicing with your health. It may be only advice, but there are good reasons doctors give toy advice. And good reasons why they give employers advice. Don't ignore it.0
