Cancellation of Work

Thanks for all the responses, I am of course going to ask in a friendly manner. I have been there for over 2 years, so I am not concerned over dismissal.
Whether to raise a grievance if the request is refused is an interesting thought to consider. My feeling is if the manager refuses to pay the fees then the only layer of 'management ' above her would support her decision.
As I alluded too in an early post, I wish to drop from my temporary 4 days a week, back to my substantive 3 day's a week. What is this best way to do this? My temporary contract is till August this year, I have been working 4 days a week since August 2015.
Do I have to work 4 days a week till August or can I say I want to go back to 3 days a week straight away??? When I took on the extra hours, all I received a letter just stating the increase of hours.
I can't ask hr, this is outsourced and while for my job I have access to them. I can't ask about my own situation as it would be logged by hr.0 -

As a demonstration of management commitment and to show the situation has been taken seriously and there will be no repetition of management failure.
Op, isn't there a deputy who could have stood in/ opened up?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Unfortunately due to the nature of the task, the only person I could have worked on it with was the manager.
In addition to this I wouldn't have wanted to be lone working on the site.0 -
A fair minded person would pay expenses incurred (nursery, travelling, subsistence) in addition to a days pay.
I disagree with this in almost Biblical terms!
The agreement was for the OP to come in and do a day's work. It was the OP's decision that the payment for this would be sufficient recompense, and presumably a normal day's pay does cover travel, subsistence and nursery.Takeaway_Addict wrote: »Indulge me.....Why would a fair minded person pay more than the rate going for a days work?
The OP could have said no.
That said as the OP turned up for work and it was cancelled through no fault of their own I would expect the employer to pay the normal hours for a normal day.
Here here!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
I don't think it unreasonable to expect to be paid for the hours it was agreed would be worked. I accept that it was the OPs decision to say yes, but that decision was made on the basis that she wouldn't be out of pocket.0

I thought I would update the thread and confirm that I have now been reimbursed for the nursery fees.0

Thanks for updating us. Good to see that the employer has ensured you aren't out of pocket for effectively trying to do them a favour.0
