P45 missing a payment

Ok so I'm a bit confused. I have not worked since November 2016 as I was in the process of setting up a new business with an ex colleague (which we just launched) upon leaving my last employer they sent my final pay (which was wrong) and included my p45 which was also wrong as it included the incorrect final payment. The following month the missing pay was sent to me with a wage slip (which I since misplaced) but as I already had the p45 that final payment never made it onto the p45. I wasn't sent a P60 as I wasn't employed with them as of 5th April 2017 but I have nothing that shows my full years earnings and I am expected to do a self assessment. Suggestions!?? Thanks

  • Either ask your former employer for a copy of the missing payslip or phone the HMRC and ask them for details of the additional payment (employers have to send a separate report of each payment they make so HMRC should know exactly what was paid/tax deducted or refunded on the extra payment).

If you open a Personal Tax Account it will show you all of the payments that you received from your employer last year:

  • Good thinking!
  • That's a good point .
Likely won't get the payslip from them as they need reminding and prompting for everything, the payroll manager is also very lazy. But I will do the personal account, thanks for the advice
