My wife loves flowers in the home but since we cant afford to much we go shopping late evening to Tescos and lookfor reduced price flowers. Frequently expensive bunches are reduce to clear when close to date. If you're very brave and you see a member of staff reducing products its well worth asking if they are to be reduced still further. frequently she gets £9+ bunches of flowers for under £2.
The more expensive ones are wrapped in very decent tissue and decorative cellophane, these she saves to use as wrapping paper and many bunches have gift tags as well so job's a good 'un.
The flowers incidentally usually last best part of a week..
Thank you Tesco's, every little does help:T

Good tip! Thank you.
I also hear if you add sugar to the water in the vase, the flowers last longer (I have not tried it myself)0 -
If anyone has a lidl near them, they also do really nice flowers (not as big a bunch as some of the most expensive Mr T ones but still nice) for a couple of £s. Or you could try your local market - I know ours has a flower stall, and have bought a really expensive looking bunch for my nan once for £5 complete with nice tissue paper and cellophane.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

our local market at the end of the day always sells off his flowers super cheap but you have to catch him just before he finishes packing up and you can get around 4 bunches for £10

I've never bought myself flowers. Always seen it as a waste/unnecessary expense.
But when I rented a flat 3 weeks ago I stopped off at Aldi to get some bits and bobs and saw they had some carnations at £1.79. So I got them - and two vases at 99p from Ikea. Bunged them on the windowsills. Looked nice, for about 2 weeks. Although they seemed to go dry rather than rot. I didn't expect them to go dry. I expected them to wilt/sag and go brown.
Didn't bother again when those ones were chucked out. It's only me that sees them0 -

I always used a couple of spoons of lemonade in a vase, but Sarah Raven from Gardener's World reccomends a tea-spoon of bleach in 2 litres of water to stop the green slimy stuff that grows in vases and clogs up the stems, together with a teaspoon of vinegar and two spoons of sugar. No-one's bought me flowers since I read that () so I'm not too sure how well it works.

i use bleach and sugar in the water for my flowers and they normally last ages normally2 weeks even if they're reduced ones so its definatly worth a tryOther women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0

I have heard putting a soluble aspirin in the water makes flowers last longer, although I haven't tried it myself.
Even though I am on a budget,I do treat myself to a bunch of flowers every couple of weeks,I find that dahlias/chrysanths will last for up to 2 weeks and if I can get them reduced, well even better.0 -
Morrisons flowers are great! Reasonably priced and last well too:TChristians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0
