Leaving current role

Hi
I am leaving my current job (i have also just moved house) which used up all or the vast majority of my savings. Now, my concern is the amount of my final paycheck... I don't know what to expect.
I am told by my boss that we are paid in hand.., meaning that when I started on 1st July 2014 I was paid for the whole month on 15th July 2014. Now I am leaving on 12th May 2017 so I am wondering what that means in terms of salary. The pay day for that month is 15th May 2017.
So does that mean that I will get paid for the whole month? or just for the 12 days? thanks
Confused.

You will be (should be) paid for the days you have worked in May, so the 10 working days essentially (including the bank holiday).Dwy galon, un dyhead,

Thanks...
I also start my new job on the following Monday I.e Monday 15th May and their first pay date and they have confirmed the first salary date is 3rd June 2017.
Does that mean I will get the whole of the salary from June and half of the salary for May at that time?0 -
Highly unlikely. You are more likely to get either the pay you will be entitled to for the whole of May or, more likely, get a few days pay up to the cut of date for your new employer's payroll.
Many employers pay part arrears and part advance, but I've not come across one who pays the entire month before any of it has been worked.0 -
Thanks...

I would have thought you would be paid for your May days worked then in July you'll get paid for June.Dwy galon, un dyhead,

ey? if they pay in advance (pay date 3rd June)
that means that they are paying their staff on that date for the whole of June.
If i start in the middle of May... surely, I am going to get those days on that date as well
Is that now how getting paid in advance works?0 -
Oh... I see, they have said that that pay date is for 5th May to 6th June (pay date was 6th not 3rd)
so I will get 17 working days pay? on that date.
As they pay behind what does that mean when you leave? you get a double payment?0 -
Why would you? They will pay you on June 6th for the whole of May. At the beginning of each month you will be paid for the previous month's work.
Let's suppose you leave on 17th September (random date) on a year in the future. You would be paid in early Sept for the work you did for them in August, and then in early Oct for the period 1-17 Sept.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Call both payroll departments.
Where I work I get paid from the 1st to the end of the month on the 15th. So I have just been paid for all of April.
Where I used to work did the same. But prior to starting i called payroll and asked what the situation would be in the new (now current) role. They were very happy to share this with me and payroll have a greater chance of getting it spot on than people on the internet who do not know the exact pay periods of these roles. This will allow you to budget.
I thought it would be a right hassle - but the woman was lovely and even said it wasn't the first time she'd been asked that week.
