Capital Resolve letter

Options
Hi all,
Today I have received a letter from a company called Capital Resolve. The letter reads:

"We have been asked to contact a ... and have been provided your address by a Credit Reference Agency through their name and date of birth matching service.

I would be grateful if you could contact us by one of the following methods:
....(they list a phone number here or a text message service to get a call back)..

Would you please respond to this letter by the ...."

I've checked my credit file with Noodle and Experian and nothing looks wrong (any tips on what to look for?). I have never had a loan apart from a student loan and a mortgage.

Is it worth me contacting this company as requested or should I ignore them? I'm stressing out about how they've got my details and if I'm a victim of fraud.

Any help much appreciated!

They are a debt collection agency.

Sounds like a fishing letter, I'd wait until they write again quoting a specific debt or account, until then ignore.

They may be looking for someone with a similar name, unless the letter lists specific allegations, you can safely ignore it.

  • Thanks for the reply, I was stressing out about what it could be. Since nothing is showing as outstanding on noodle or experian I guess my credit history won't be affected?

    Hi Orion,

It is unlikely your credit file will be affected if you have checked Experian and Noddle. You can check Call Credit (Clearscore) to be certain but it doesn't look like it is an issue.

I agree with Sourcrates that if there is no account or debt specified then I would wait and see if they write again. But, if you are worried this is going to play on your mind, then you could write back and say that you think they have the wrong person, that you do not recognise the debt and there are no details on this letter that links the matter to you. Ask them for more details or you will consider a complaint on the grounds of harassment.

Just be careful, that you may open a can of worms.

What Laura means by that is that even though it may not be your debt, they could try to pin it on you anyway if you contact them.

These companies are not always bothered who pays, despite there flashy websites and the "we want to help" attitude.

    Be wary.

Just to be clear this company use Call credit to search for a debtor . If your name and sometimes DOB match in the area you live they will send a verification letter. This is the letter this person has received. It is not to pin a debt on someone else at all. All they ask is that you contact them to rule you out if you don't recognise the information then tell them and they won't send you anything else.
The information isn't obtained illegally and it isn't a scam either. Once you tell them you aren't the person they are looking for your details are removed which they did even before new GDPR laws came into force.
